This is the new "Gearing Up" thread for the game. I thought this would help keep the OOC threads from getting long before their time.

I should have the mission budgets up by tomorrow, since the power company decided to have an untimely brown-out yesterday....just got power back around 1am this morning.

Anyhoo...any comments, questions, etc. regarding the "gearing up phase"should be place here. This is also the place to request things from Q-Branch R&D.
Dieter 2002-07-08 22:32:59
No worries, you're included in the plotline. You'll just have to get creative while gearing up...remember the interrogation scene in True Lies?

Aaaahnold didn't have too much trouble re-equipping himself. ;)
Dieter 2002-07-09 01:12:42
Based on previous encounters, our team lacks serious stopping power. I'm thinking of getting an AR and upgrading my armor, but the extent would depend on how well the rolls for budget points go.
Gatac 2002-07-09 01:36:27
If it helps, I'll cut my equipment down to minimum and give you guys the budget to wield heavy ordnance.

If I recall correctly, the Agency frowns on that sort of thing, but they don't really notice unless it happens on a regular basis.

Is there any chance that the Agency would issue Nighthawk's equipment to the rest of us, and we just hand it off when we rescue him?
Dieter 2002-07-09 05:05:45
Ok, a few things to cover before the allocation.

1) While heavy ordinance is frowned upon, favoring subtlety in most instances...the Agency does recognize that this mission is an outright assault.

SO:

SMG's and rifles are permitted, but keep it to carbines and weapons that don't require an assault weapons permit (ie. No to AK's, but yes to AR-15's and MP5's)

2) The Agency assumes that you would be using Nighthawk's allocation of points to use in re-arming/equipping him upon rescue.

That said, here is the allocation:

Jessica: 55 bp's, 2gp's
Harry: 32bp's, 4gp's
Gavin: 26bp's, 1gp
Artis: 13bp's, 2gp, and 4gp (specifically for vehicle)

*edit* $2600 for field expenses (that's for the whole team) plus two extra gadget points

You sure you read the Gear chapter right? I thought that the mission gadgets and personal field expenses are issued per-agent. I could be wrong, of course.

Also, what's the threat code for this mission? From the budget, I'm assuming that it's Yellow.
Dieter 2002-07-09 15:19:47
Breakdown of field expenses:

Jess: $700
Harry: $700, but since he's captured right now, that sum may only go to his personal welfare.
Artis: $600
Gavin: $600

As for the gadget points, the corresponding gp's after your name are your mission gadget points....doh! Wait a minute! I believe the extra 2 points (yes, it is a Code Yellow) are for each team member, not for the whole team, so:

Jess=4gp's
Harry=6gp's
Gavin=3gp's
Artis=4gp's, plus 4 more for the vehicle

I think that's right. The gearing up phase is probably the hardest aspect of the game.

Small question - how much would it cost me to exchange the Colt for an FN Five-seveN ? I reckon Jess will get along better with a low-recoil handgun...

8 budget points...and just an reminder, Five-seveN ammo is/will be a bit hard to come by, especially in the countries FKASSR. (Formerly Known As Soviet Socialist Republics)

You'll get three mags when issued, additional mags (20 rounds) will cost 1bp each.
Gatac 2002-07-09 20:44:38
That's a risk I'm willing to take, as opposed to a weapon that didn't do jack against the armored goons at Doc's house.

Sure...just make a list of things you would have brought if you weren't the one being rescued. We'll go from there.

Well, my new personal budget's on the update. I think they should decide how to spend my stuff, since I don't really have a say. They could put some of my gadget points into a bitchin' ride, but that's their choice.
Dieter 2002-07-10 18:30:42
The Five-seveN stats are:

Cost: 23BPs
Caliber: 5.7mm (duh?)
Damage: 1d12
Error: 1
Threat: 19-20
Range: 18
Ammo: 20
Gatac 2002-07-10 18:37:33
Ah, cheaper than I thought. This means 20 BPs free. If you don't need them, I'm getting my laser sight back and looking into some other useful stuff. As for gadgets, I'm still thinking what could be useful. Has anyone ever played James Bond - The Stealth Affair ? Really old adventure game, but had some funky stuff - hm, how about a passport falsifier ? Feed a blank passport plus photo, and it spits out according to your specifications...I wonder how expensive or big that one would be, though.

Gatac
Dieter 2002-07-10 18:53:22
It would be at least 3-4 gadget points. Falsifying important documents like passports (especially post-9/11) is a tricky business. I would say that the fake would give you maybe a +5 circumstance bonus to bluff your way out of spending several years in a Turkish prison.

As for size, I'd say something about the size/thickness of and external zip drive.
